Salmon Youth Centre Shines on BBC Radio London and BBC London 6 O’clock News
07/11/2025
Bermondsey, London — This week, Salmon Youth Centre’s work with young people took centre stage on BBC Radio London and the BBC London 6 o’clock News — a proud moment for our community and a powerful reminder of why support from initiatives like Children in Need matters.
Young leaders take the mic
On Monday, Jamie, our Director, was joined by two of Salmon’s young leaders for a live interview with Shay Kaur Grewal on BBC Radio London. The young leaders spoke confidently and passionately about the centre’s activities, the difference Salmon makes for children and families in Bermondsey, and the urgent need for continued funding and community support.

A three-legged challenge for awareness
On Wednesday, Jamie returned to BBC Radio London for a second live segment — this time recorded on location whilst taking part in the three-legged, thousand-mile challenge. While on air, he joined presenter Shay Kaur Grewal in a symbolic three-legged walk from Tower Bridge to St Paul’s Cathedral, part of the wider 1,000-mile challenge to raise awareness and funds. The walk highlights both the physical and community strides Salmon is making for local children.
Live on the BBC London 6 o’clock News
After the radio interviews, Jamie and the young leaders headed to the BBC news studio to appear live on the BBC London 6 o’clock News. Their on-camera appearance rounded off an incredible couple of days of media coverage — a sterling example of our young people representing Salmon with eloquence and confidence.

Why this matters
Salmon Youth Centre provides a safe, supportive space for children and young people in Bermondsey to learn, play and grow. The recent media exposure not only celebrated our young leaders but also helped spotlight the continued need for funding and community engagement. Support from charities and donors — especially projects backed by Children in Need — enables Salmon to provide:
- After-school programmes and homework support
- Sports and creative workshops
- Mentoring and leadership development
- Family support and counselling referrals
A heartfelt thank you
We are incredibly proud of our young leaders for their professionalism and warmth during each interview. Their voices carried the heart of Salmon’s mission into homes across London — and inspired listeners to learn more and get involved.
